Throughout its history, Marqués de Riscal has always been an innovating, pioneering cellar and reference in a constantly changing winemaking sector. We seek to make wines which are original, fresh, elegant and easy to drink. Since the beginning, we have always had a clear vocation for export. Today we can be found in more 110 countries to which we export more than 60% of our production.
Marqués de Riscal is one of Rioja's oldest and most famous wine estates. Foundation of Marqués de Riscal by D. Guillermo Hurtado de Amézaga in 1858. The birth of a dream. In just five years the first prizes began to arrive. It was the first ever Rioja wine to be bottled Marqués de Riscal was the first non-French wine to win the diploma of honor of the Bordeaux Exhibition. This diploma was added to the wine’s label. Nowadays, the estate is as famous for the distinctive, Frank Gehry-designed hotel that forms part of the estate as it is for its wines.
To make this wine, Marqués de Riscal use grapes from old vines over 80 years old, from their own estate vineyards as well as bought in from local growers who they have worked with for generations. The wine destined for making the Gran Reserva is set aside after the final coupages and passes into French oak barrels where it will spend between two and a half and three years, followed by another three years in bottle before its release.

Excellent depth and complexity here, starting from the nose that’s rather more introverted yet savory in nature, showing subtle vanilla spices, dried oranges, peppercorns, dark mushrooms and berries. Fluid, nicely fruity and intense, with fine spices and nice flesh in the middle. Lengthy finish, lasting for a minute. Drink or hold.

The 2018 Gran Reserva Marqués de Riscal is a blend of 95% Tempranillo and 5% Graciano, sourced from RiojaAlavesa. Displaying a garnet hue, the balsamic nose also features vanilla and cedar notes, accompanied byblackberry and herbal hints. Dry, juicy and bold on the palate, the fine-grained reactive tannins add texture to aclingy mouthfeel.
