Winery

Pierre Boisson is a family-owned boutique winery located in the village of Meursault in the Côte de Beaune appellation of Burgundy, France.

In the 1940s, the Boisson family planted their first Aligoté vines. In the 1980s, Bernard Boisson established vineyards in Meursault, Côte de Beaune, and subsequently acquired new plots of land. The winery was then named Boisson-Vadot, combining the surnames of Bernard Boisson and his wife. In 2017, Bernard Boisson's children, Pierre and Anne Boisson, gradually took over the management of the family winery. Currently, the winery's wines are bottled under the Domaine Pierre Boisson and Domaine Anne Boisson labels.

It's worth noting that Pierre Boisson and Raphael Coche, the young owner of Domaine Coche-Dury, enjoyed a close personal relationship. The two often discussed viticulture and winemaking philosophies, leading to a certain similarity in their winemaking styles. Jancis Robinson ranked Domaine Pierre Boisson among the outstanding producers in Meursault, alongside Domaine Coche and Domaine Roulot.
Region

he Boisson family owns approximately 10 hectares of vineyards, primarily in the Meursault, Auxey-Duresses, Mâcon, and Bourgogne Aligote appellations. They also own smaller plots in Monthelie and Pommard for their red appellation wines. Domaine Pierre Boisson adheres to a philosophy of organic farming and minimal intervention in winemaking, retaining many old vines in its vineyards. Its Meursault Village white wine, renowned for its exceptional quality, is considered a model for the appellation. The grapes used are sourced from vines in the Les Criots and Les Perchots plots, which average 50 years of age. These old vines impart a vibrant palate, captivating minerality, and subtle exotic notes, giving village-level wines a quality comparable to Premier Cru wines.

Winemaking

Pierre Boisson produces classic, vibrant wines that reflect the distinct character of their terroir. The winery abstains from using any chemical fertilizers or pesticides, instead using plowing to loosen the soil and reduce weeds. The winery is very restrained in its use of new oak barrels during winemaking, with top-quality Premier Cru and single vineyard wines typically aging in barrels with a percentage of no more than 25%-30%, while village and regional wines use even less. All wines are fermented with native yeasts and, after removing all or most of the lees, transferred to oak barrels for 19-22 months, supplemented by gentle battonage. The Boisson family believes that extended aging imparts greater depth and finesse to the wines. Prior to bottling, the wines are lightly fined but not filtered.
