Tirant Lo Blanc is a role model of medieval knight hero. He is brave and skilled in fighting, saving countless girls and princesses from tournaments to endless wars. The flagship wine of Rotllan Torra is named after him. This strong, brave, wise, yet thoughtful hero symbolizes the full honey and structure of the wine, which is powerful yet delicate and elegant.

Rotllan Torra Winery is located in the Priorat region of Spain and is a family-run winery. This is the most difficult and elegant Spanish wine region. Apart from the superstar Alvaro Palacios, this must be another dark horse with the most dazzling performance. For centuries, the wine could not be sold due to church reasons: it was not until 1984 that the current operator Jordi Rotllan Torra put the wine on the market for sale.

As one of only two DOCa designations of origin (DOCa) in Spain, Priorat is small, but its position among Spanish wine regions cannot be ignored. It and Rioja are the only two DOCa-level production areas in Spain, which is one level higher than the general DO level. Priorat has attracted the attention of many wine critics and wine lovers with its unique terroir charm.

Grapes grown in the Priorat region are mostly low-yielding varieties, so Priorat wines are generally rich in flavor and are mainly blended with Carinena and Garnacha. This type of red wine is usually aged in oak barrels, has a strong flavor, generally has a high alcohol content, and is full of the unique mineral flavor brought by the slate soil.

Tirant's wine has the classic century-old vines of Priorat, Grenache and Carignan, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and even Merlot. It has depth and intensity, a very long aftertaste, strong tannins and good aging potential.

The 2005 Tirant is composed of 35% Garnacha from a 90 year old parcel, 35% Mazuelo (Carinena) also 90 years of age, with the balance equal portions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot that was aged for 14 months in new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it sports an enthralling nose of liquid mineral, exotic spices, incense, lavender, and roasted black fruits. Already complex, dense, sweetly fruited and structured for the long haul, this is a powerful, lengthy Priorat that should drink well through 2030, perhaps longer.
