The creation of Teacher whiskey can be traced back to 1830, when William Teacher, a cotton mill worker in Scotland, was only 19 years old when the new Excise Act was introduced. But he was smart enough to see this legal change that allowed whiskey to be legally distilled as an opportunity.
He obtained a license to sell whiskey in a grocery store in Glasgow's Anderson district, and together with his girlfriend he opened the first "bar" where customers could enjoy whiskey. Later, when he opened a second store, he successfully obtained a license to sell bottled whiskey, which led to rapid expansion. Before long, he had a chain of nearly 20 stores, where customers could sit and enjoy, and also buy a bottle. Take it home.
It was during this time that William Teacher created a whiskey with an unusually high peated malt content. It had a rich and unique flavor profile, so he gave the wine his name.
After William's death, his sons took over the company and took the important step of buying a piece of land in Aberdeenshire and building their own distillery. This move also increased production capacity and allowed Teacher Scotch Whiskey to go global.
Especially when Prohibition ended and legal trade with the United States resumed. In the United States, you can see overwhelming advertisements for Teacher whiskey.
Until now, if you open some auction websites, the price of the printed advertisement for Teacher whiskey at that time was more expensive than the wine.
It can also be seen that in the early days, the high-end men's market was first opened. The scenes in the advertisements were golf, gentlemen's gatherings, bowling...
“It’s the flavour” is the most classic slogan for whiskey.
Since the 1960s, advertising has become more diverse as the times have changed. Linked to artistic cooperation, it shows that women also like to drink spirits such as whiskey and so on.
Teacher’s whiskey, which spans centuries, has a rich peat flavor, mixed with the aroma of bacon and malt. Typical of Scottish style, the smoke is also sharp. It's like a strict but knowledgeable old-school teacher who has his own teaching rules and doesn't blindly please every student who will either be intimidated by him or impressed by his erudition.
Aroma: As expected, young grains dominate, with typical caramel and molasses notes. Additionally, there is an oily, nutty, clarified buttery flavor - like ghee. A little water will take away a little bit of the excess - possibly the ghost of crushed peanuts.
Palate: That's young grains - fresh hay, oats, figs, buttery scones, and - hazelnut toffee. The mouthfeel has a nice creaminess to it, more than I'd expect from a young blend. A little water will thin the body slightly.
Finish: Medium-long and slightly unpleasant: echoes of engine oil, bitter coffee grounds and toffee. A little water rounds out the texture, rounding out and sweetening the flavors: candied walnuts and light brown sugar.
