酒莊 Winery

Merayo家族在西班牙一直也是葡萄酒世界的活躍份子，幾十年來，一直是該地區 (Bierzo) 最重要的釀酒廠之一。在1980年代後期，家族成員Pedro Merayo決定要在葡萄酒事業上幹一番成就，將自己全副精神集中在家庭葡萄園的保養、回復及維護上，務求要出品令世界注目來自Bierzo產區的高質紅白酒。經過了接近20年時間的努力，Pedro Merayo 在2010年成立了 Bodegas Merayo，並選址Finca Miralmonte為莊園。隨著新釀酒廠的創建和現代化釀酒設備，及對出品優質葡萄酒承諾的堅持，現今，酒莊在國內和國際市場上嶄露頭角。Wine Couple 今次就引入了此酒莊幾款特色葡萄酒給大家試試。

產區 Region

此白酒用上100% Godello 釀造。Godello在Bierzo產區為古老的本土白葡萄品種。在20世紀70年代，Godello在西班牙的種植面積驟縮，僅剩下幾百株葡萄藤，近乎滅絕。幸得當時Horacio Fernandez和Louis Hidalgo二人聯手提出”Godello復興計畫”（Godello Revival）、在他們的努力之下，這個品種終於能在西班牙重新復興起來。Merayo酒莊種植Godello的葡萄園位於海拔超過600米的山坡上，土壤主要為黏土以及帶上卵石，為受惠於高海拔及該區的Cool Climate微氣候，成就了出品優質白葡萄酒的有利條件

釀造 Winemaking

葡萄皆來自葡萄園的老樹滕，全部採用手工採摘，先進行24小時冷浸，再導入控溫不锈鋼桶作發酵，及後再進行4個月的lees aging才裝瓶。

Our Best in Show journey across Northern Spain continues with a 2020 Bierzo, grown just across the provincial border from Galicia into Castilla y Léon. It’s another zone of steep slopes and old vines – the variety in this case being Mencia (known as Jaen in Portugal’s Dão region). This wine is deep black-red in colour and vivacious and urgent in aroma: wild plums mingled with the woodland scents of leaf, copse and forest floor. The palate is fruit-packed and vibrant, vigorous with an energy derived both from ripe acidity and fresh though smooth tannins; look out, too, for a stony, bitter-edged finish perhaps derived from the region’s slate soils. Wonderful drinking now in the flush of youth, but fruit of this quality will hold well for a few years yet.

This shows notes of blackberries and blueberries with hints of walnuts, dried herbs, baking spices and cocoa nibs. Medium-to full-bodied with chalky, dusty tannins and a smooth, seamless texture. Juicy and crunchy blue-fruit character and notes of chocolate and licorice to close.
