Viña Muriel goes a step further in its winemaking concept, starting from our most special vineyard in Elciego.

We seek to extol the La Rioja winemaking tradition, the work of the winery, the respect for the steps that history has taught us.

These wines have wisdom, grandeur and a high sense of nobility. Classicism is their main hallmark. And that refers both to the process and to the consumption, which tends to be more reserved and exclusive, with a touch of ritual and confirmation that great wines demand.

Viticulture

Made from grapes belonging to the area ofElciego. The vines are planted over very poor calcareous soils with a clay loamtexture. The vineyard is cultivated mainly employing a traditionalgoblet-pruned system. Winemaking The fermentation and maceration process iscarried out over a period of 20 days achieved in stainless steel vats with adaily pumping routine, which allows an optimal extraction of colour andtannins. The aging process lasts for 24 months, carried out in 225 litre Frenchoak barrels. The wine matures in the bottle for two years prior to its releaseon the market.

Winery Muriel was founded by Jose Murua in Rioja in 1926. The group has a total of 6 wineries, 4 of which are in the Rioja region. It has been rooted in Rioja Alavesa, the core area of Rioja for a century. Vina Muriel is the top series of the winery, all harvested from the El Gallo vineyard. If applied to the latest Rioja classification system, it belongs to a single vineyard, and is definitely not those cheap Riojas mixed with grapes from three major regions. Moreover, the age of the Viura trees in the vineyard is more than 30 years. It is first fermented in French oak barrels for 25 days, then aged in the same barrels for 8 months, and then aged in bottles for 8 years.
