Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2021《ZTI014A》
Tenuta San Guido is located in the Bolgheri coastal region of Tuscany, Italy. Its Sassicaia wines are considered the king of Italian wines, earning the reputation of being the "Lafite of Italy." Sassicaia, the king of Super Tuscans, is the only winery in Italy, and indeed the only one in the world, to be designated DOC Sassicaia. Robert Parker has recognized it as one of the world's greatest wineries, and the Italian Culinary Association has even declared it the "King of Italian Wines of the 20th Century." In 1985, only six wines worldwide received a perfect score from Robert Parker. Sassicaia's scores far surpass those of the five largest Bordeaux estates, yet the price is less than half! Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, the founder of Sanguito Winery, was passionate about fine wine, horse racing, and the environment. He long dreamed of producing a superior wine, an Italian wine that would appeal to the upper classes, preferably in the style of Bordeaux. In the 1940s, Mario and his wife settled at Sanguito Winery. He continually experimented with the excellent soil, ultimately making the groundbreaking innovation of using Cabernet Sauvignon in winemaking, becoming the first to do so. Sanguito Winery produced Sassicaia from 1948 until the mid-1960s. Early Sassicaia was a hobby for the Marquis, brewed for his own consumption and to entertain friends and family, and no detailed records are kept. For a long time, reports have consistently stated that the first vintage of Sassicaia was 1948, and even the winery's official website states this. But when you visit the winery, you'll see a bottle of Sassicaia 1945 meticulously displayed on the wall! 1968 was a memorable vintage. This year, the continuously refined Sassicaia debuted. At its launch, Sassicaia's DOC, Italy's governing regulations for wine regions, had already been enacted. Because it didn't meet the requirements of Chianti, it was relegated to the lowest tier, Vino da Tavola. However, in an international blind tasting that year, Sassicaia's exceptional performance astounded the wine world, and its popularity rivaled that of Bordeaux's top-tier wineries.
Tenta San Guido's vineyards span 173 acres (approximately 70 hectares), all within the Sassicaia DOC appellation. The vineyards are planted with 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. The average vine age is 25-30 years, with a planting density of 4,000-5,000 vines per hectare, resulting in an average yield of 1 kg per vine.
Tenta San Guido's wines are vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats ranging in capacity from 3,500 to 11,000 liters. Maceration lasts approximately two weeks. Aging takes place in 225-liter, 33% new French oak barrels for two years.

Here it is: A quintessential Sassicaia that represents the excellence of the vintage and also respects the unique taste profile of this distinguished Tuscan blend of Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc. The Tenuta San Guido 2021 Bolgheri Sassicaia offers impeccable balance, excellent freshness and absolutely no signs of over-ripeness. The fruit balance is ideal with a hint of crunch and lasting tension from pulp and skins. The tannins are deftly managed with firm grip and enough velvetiness to add volume and length. There is no greenness on the bouquet that instead offers mulled herbs and spice, with cinnamon and clove, layered delicately between mostly red and some purple berry fruits. Redcurrant, blueberry, sweet pomegranate and Rainier cherry run strong in this vintage. A fragrant hint of heritage rose emerges with time. The oak tones are geared toward gingerbread, hazelnut, cigar, sandalwood and something like a grilled sweet red pepper. To the palate, it offers nice weight with no heavy glycerin, and a rinse of acidity that adds to the wine’s natural energy, brightness and viscosity. That marked freshness opens the wine up to long aging potential, but you still need to give it more time in bottle.
