Jacques Selosse Champagne

The winery was founded by Jacques Selosse in the Grand Cru village of Avize in 1949. The second-generation owner Anselme Selosse took over in 1974. Anselme spent thirty years becoming the representative of the Côte des Blancs (White Hill). The vineyards are distributed in the Grand Cru villages of Avize, Cramant, Oger, Le Mesnil sur Oger, Aÿ, Ambonnay and the only first-class village Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. There are more than 8 hectares of vineyards, a total of 54 plots, and an annual output of 57,000 bottle.

1964 was the first vintage that Jacques brewed and bottled under his own name. Ten years later, Anselme began to experiment with grape growing and brewing at the winery. From 1990 to 1996, the winery mainly relied on organic planting methods. Starting in 1996, it changed to biodynamic planting methods.

 

After 2002, there were new adjustments. Anselme believes that whether it is organic planting or biodynamic planting, it is just a way to take care of the grape fields, and it should not be the goal of planting. He implements the philosophy of adaptability into planting and refuses to impose his own ideas on nature. It does not flaunt itself with a certain current trend of planting methods. This may be the reason why it was influenced by the Burgundy planting concept in its early years.

Humans are creatures of inertia, and life is often controlled by habits. Change is not easy, just like the flag we set every day. It appears on paper and has never been acted upon, but Anselme has seen valuable action. Over the years, the winery has With continuous innovation in planting and brewing methods, Anselme is truly worthy of the title of "Evangelist of Terroir".

In 2007, Guillaume Selosse (Anselme’s son) followed his father’s philosophy and participated in brewing. In 2018, Guillaume officially takes over and will bring more surprises to the winery.
