Agnes et Didier Dauvissat Chablis Premier Cru Beauroy 2023《ZTF262》
Founded in 1987 in Beine, near Chablis, Agnès et Didier Dauvissat is a relatively new winery in the area. Founders Didier and his son Florent are distantly related to Vincent Dauvissat, the reigning king of Chablis. However, Didier took it upon himself to forge his own path, sourcing suitable vines, purchasing equipment, and building cellars.
The estate boasts over 10 hectares of vineyards spread across Petit Chablis, Chablis, Beauroy Premier Cru, and Florent Premier Cru. The vineyards primarily feature Kimmeridgian soils composed of clay, limestone, marl, and small oyster fossils. The abundant sunlight provides the perfect backdrop for vibrant, passionate, and minerally Chardonnay wines.
Chablis, the region that produces the most vibrant, light, tactile, yet uniquely complex Chardonnay, is considered part of Burgundy, but its appellation actually extends far beyond the northernmost reaches of the Côte d'Or. Its vineyards cover the hillsides surrounding the small village of Chablis, approximately 100 miles north of Dijon, making it closer to Champagne than Burgundy. Both Champagne and Chablis share a unique soil type, called the Kimmeridgian, found nowhere else in the world except southern England. This geological formation, composed of weathered clay and limestone, is 180 million years old and contains tiny oyster shell fossils. It stretches from Kimmeridge in Dorset, southern England, all the way to Champagne and into the soils of Chablis. This soil type produces wines that are full-bodied, austere, mineral, saline, and delicate.
Beauroy is a prime, south-facing premier cru vineyard, covering 64 hectares, located on the left bank of the Serein River. The soil is composed of clay and limestone, with abundant oyster fossils. The area is heavily affected by fog, which wreaked havoc in 1978. Following the devastating effects, an artificial lake was constructed beneath the Cote de Savant to provide sufficient water for the vineyards, allowing for overhead irrigation to protect against spring frosts. Since then, conditions have improved significantly.
