Chateau de Reignac is located in the Entre-Deux-Mers wine region of Bordeaux, France. The current owners are Yves Vatelot and Stephanie Vatelot. The winery was originally built in the 16th century and underwent significant renovations and alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries.
In 1990, Yves Vatelot and Stephanie Vatelot purchased Chateau de Reignac. In 1993, the estate specially constructed a lake to protect the vineyards from frost. In 1998, the estate established a separate tasting room in a 16th-century tavern. In 2011, renowned wine critic and journalist B. Burtschy Figaro highly praised Chateau de Reignac, stating, "Chateau de Reignac's vineyards enjoy the terroir of a Bordeaux Premier Cru." Currently, the estate's winemaking consultant is the world-renowned winemaker Michel Rolland.
Chateau de Reignac's vineyards are situated between the Garonne and Dordogne Rivers, on the slopes of a valley, covering 3 hectares and scattered across the left and right banks of the rivers. The soil composition of the vineyards mainly consists of sandy soils from the Fronsadais region, limestone clay from the Castillon region, gravelly soils from alluvial slopes, and marl soils, all with good drainage, which is conducive to the cultivation of a variety of high-quality grapes. The winery employs a high-density planting method, planting premium grape varieties that perfectly express its unique style according to the different soil characteristics. The main grape varieties planted in the vineyards include old vine Merlot. After the grapes ripen, the winery hand-harvests them to obtain the highest quality grapes with the most concentrated flavor compounds.
Chateau de Reignac uses premium grapes from its own vineyards, combining advanced winemaking equipment with traditional techniques to consistently produce high-quality wines that perfectly reflect the unique terroir of its grapes. Currently released wines include Grand Vin de Reignac, Chateau de Reignac, and Chateau de Reignac Blanc, all of which are highly popular.
Grand Vin de Reignac, in particular, gained initial acclaim after a blind tasting event in 2009. The tasting panel comprised 15 professionals from diverse backgrounds, including financial experts, company chairmen, wine merchants, wine journalists, columnists, and sommeliers of the year. Reignac ranked second overall in the tasting, receiving the most enthusiastic discussion and praise from the judges. The most striking aspect was that it was compared to other wines in the blind tasting, including top-tier wines like Haut-Brion, Latour, Lafite, Mouton, and Margaux, as well as Petrus, Ausone, Cheval Blanc, La Mission Haut-Brion, and Angelus, among others. Despite the vast price differences, Reignac only lost to Château Angélus in terms of score. While a single blind tasting may not seem significant, the results were quite interesting for the wine world. The resulting video became a lasting promotional tool for Reignac, and it was even featured in volume 21 of the manga "Drops of God," described as "a powerful groom."
In 1996, the first vintage of Chateau de Reignac received a 90-point rating from Robert Parker. That same year, at the European Wine Tasting, Chateau de Reignac was listed among the "50 Best Bordeaux Châteaux" alongside many world-renowned wineries, surpassing the ratings and rankings of many First Growths!
Robert Parker described the estate owner, Yves Vatelot, as passionate about winemaking, willing to minimize production and strive for perfection in every step of the process to create the wine he desires.
