它實際上是法國葡萄品種Pinot Gris的意大利名稱。這種多元化又多變的葡萄據信起源於法國的Burgundy勃艮第地區，現在它已經在全球的葡萄園中發展起來，從意大利和法國到德國、美國、澳大利亞等等。

 

Pinot Grigio的普及程度飛速增長，多年來的葡萄園種植面積節節高升。例如，在意大利，1990年只有區區的3500公頃，在2010年已經飆升到驚人的17280公頃，幾乎與Chardonnay的種植面積相匹敵。
